My Pragma over your Dogma: MySQL Magic

By questioning what others take for granted, new dimensions of functionality and speed become available. Arjen sometimes has crazy ideas, which he explores in his (now abundant, since leaving MySQL AB) spare time. In this session, he will demonstrate some of these gizmos to you. Along the way, he may break some "rules", all for the perfectly sensible cause of making your online or data warehousing application do what you envisaged doing only in your dreams, and at speeds you did not even dare dream about.

The techniques used will be described and individual methods could be used by someone in their own apps. Attendees benefit directly from the session, as they can apply the tricks we describe, and use the insights we've gained during development. That is, the individual insights are usable outside the (more specialised) complete tools. It just happens that we've applied and combined various "tricks" in specific contexts.

The complete tools as presented will be commercial, with customers receiving the source (most likely GPLv3). The value proposition is that purchasing the tools is cheaper than developing the equivalent infrastructure including all testing and tuning of the interacting components and methods, as well as getting support, updates and fixes.
